the reduction is even greater than seven percent,” Moccia said.
These are the crimes that affect the quality of life in Norwalk
that Mayor Moccia wants to discount,
- Kidnapping and abductions increased by 53 percent, and sexual assault increased 24 percent.
- Disorderly conduct charges also increased by 20 percent.
- prostitution increased by 240 percent.
"We don't need the Guardian Angels in Norwalk," says Mayor Richard Moccia. "Our crime rate has gone down, we're putting new, younger police on the streets
and [we] have expanded community patrols. Both [police chief Harry Rilling] and the president of the police union have gone on record saying the same."
BUT, THIS IS FALSE,There has been a token increase in foot patrols at some schools, nothing more.
Mayor Moccia likes to brag about Norwalk's AAA bond rating while he continues to withhold city funds that are needed for maintenance and upkeep
of Norwalk in much the same way like a previous Republican administration (former Mayor Frank Esposito) that rendered Norwalk's infrastructure in
complete chaos, including the school system.
SOUTH NORWALK TRAIN STATION and STATE STREET NIGHTMARE. Commuters are now forced to take a long walk from the northbound side of the train
station (trains arriving from New York City) and through a tunnel in order to grab a cab. The southbound side of the station has always been used mostly
as a drop-off point for commuters, as acknowledged by Art Scialabba, Republican Town Chairman. Furthermore, we now have more traffic on State Street.
(a short one block street) This is what we have right now; -all traffic of the South Norwalk Electric Works (including all emergency vehicles making short
stops) -All incoming taxi cabs to drop-off commuters and -all outgoing taxi cabs driving commuters to all parts of the city.
DEMOCRATIC COUNCIL MEMBERS STOP REPUBLICAN (administration) ATTEMPT TO IGNORE RESIDENTS and REPUBLICAN MAYOR MOCCIA RETRACTS IN THE FACE OF
PUBLIC OPPOSITION TO THE MEADOW STREET TRANSFER STATION affecting the health and quality of life in 6 Norwalk communitites.
SOUTH NORWALK COMMUNITIES JOIN FORCES FOR A COMMON PURPOSE; FIGHTING THE REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATION's (Mayor Dick Moccia) DISREGARD FOR THE WELL
BEING OF RESIDENTS and FOR QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUES. Harbor View, Village Creek, Meadow Gardens, Shorefront Park, Wilson Point and South Norwalk are
fighting back.
(update) NORWALK FLOODING AT OLMSTEAD PLACE, FITCH STREET, BOUTON STREET AND WINDFILED STREET reduced, but not totally
fixed. It took Democratic Senator Bob Duff's foresight, efforts, intervention, deep concern and commitment to the people of Norwalk to get a
significant reduction of the flooding along affected areas of Norwalk. After repeated calls on Mayor Moccia to take care of the flooding by fixing the
drainage system in Norwalk. What has Republican Mayor Moccia done about the problem? NOTHING. Thanks to Democratic Senator Bob Duff, residents
in the affected areas are getting a liitle relief.
Residents in East Norwalk and South Norwalk Neighborhoods Praise Efforts Of Senator Duff to Help Metro North Clean Up Culverts
Flooding problems have been reduced Senator Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) has been successful in his efforts to get Metro North and the Department of
Transportation (DOT) to remove debris from culverts and this has reduced the flooding problems that have been plaguing residents in the neighborhoods
of East Norwalk and South Norwalk for a long period of time. One culvert is located at Fitch and Winfield Streets and the other culvert is on Bouton
Street.
Nearly a year ago Senator Duff discovered that Metro North had been neglecting an area along that river that runs up their rail tracks and property
in this section of East Norwalk. Metro North was not cleaning up the culverts and this was causing flooding in the neighborhood.
Senator Duff contacted officials with the DOT Office of Rail/Maintenance of Way and this resulted in Metro North working with the local public works
department to clean up the culverts. They removed about two feet of sediment and six tires. Plans are also being made to permit easier equipment access
to remove sediment in the future.
"I'd like to thank DOT and Metro North

for their help. With recent rains, it is my understanding that Olmstead Place did not flood, making the
correlation between the clogged up culverts and flooding. I will continue to monitor this in the future," said Senator Duff
"We really appreciate the effort Senator Duff has done for us here at Olmstead Place. Hopefully this will solve the flood problems," said Dee Arnone,
one of the residents in the neighborhood.
""I'm extremely pleased with the latest progress of cleaning the culverts, especially at the Bouton Street area I would like to thank Senator Duff for
his excellent improvisation on our behalf" said Rev. Phyllis Y. Bolden, a Democratic member of the Norwalk Common Council.
TRUE TO PAST REPUBLICAN ADMINISTRATIONS, MAYOR DICK MOCCIA
TURNS HIS BACK WHEN IT COMES TO DOING THE RIGHT THING FOR THE PEOPLE OF NORWALK AND THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH NORWALK COMMUNITIES, BUT HE CONTINUES TO COME THROUGH FOR
DEVELOPERS. WE WONDER WHY?
THIS COULD BE THE ANSWER, CONSIDER THIS: During the 2007 political campaign Repbublican Dick Moccia received hefty contributions
from at least 12 developers (including Andy Kyriakides, brother of Republican Councilman Nicholas Kydes, some of whom are currently doing business with the city and others who want to do business with the city of Norwalk. Moccia
happily accepted their contributions, but contributions from business require payback. Moccia have shown little interest for the well-being of the People and for running an efficient government.
AT THE EXPENSE OF NORWALK RESIDENTS After all the construction projects are realized, traffic which is now a nightmare at rush hours along Connecticut Avenue, West Avenue, Martin Luther King Drive,
East Avenue, Wesport Avenue, the downtown area and other parts of the city will be at its worst. Not to mention, increased density and increased school
attendance (with no new school building projects in the works)
DISTRICT ~B~ REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES ARE "NO SHOW" FOR DEBATES - OCTOBER 15, 2007
It is normal for city Republicans to nominate people with no interest in running for elections and poor backgrounds just to fill the slate. In this case, Sheena Laughlin dropped out of the race for Common Council and Sandy Bonet,
(daughter of Tony Lopez, another inexperienced candidate running for Council At-Large) Ms. Bonet did not show up for the debates. Republicans ran a total of 12 inexperienced candidates in 2007 »»» 3 At-Large, 4 District Council and 5 for the Board of Education.
Norwalk Democratic Town & City Committee Resolution
As, Chair of the Norwalk Democratic Town & City Committee, I respectfully submit the following resolution to the Norwalk Common Council and Mayor
Moccia.
Whereas, Norwalk citizens expect the highest standards of fairness, integrity and transparency in government.
Whereas, Norwalk Democrats support a healthy, attractive and sustainable environment in which the quality of our air and water is improved and maintain
high environmental standards in accordance to the State of Connecticut Environmental Justice Act.
Whereas, Norwalk Democrats seek and promote implementation of alternative green technologies to meet growing needs of the City of Norwalk residents and
businesses, while maintaining the health and vitality of our environment and natural resources.
Be it resolved, the Norwalk Democrats support environmental justice for Norwalk and oppose the use and the expansion of the Meadow Street Facility to
handle garbage.
Further, recommend that the Common Council send back agenda items to committee to seek viable alternative.
Approved by and unanimously passed at the July 21, 2008 meeting of the Norwalk Democratic Town & City Committee.

MEADOW STREET TRANSFER STATION. How members of the city council voted and implications.
Michael Geake voted with Fred Bondi and the Republicans defeating the Crescent street option of sending the item back to committee. Geake said to

Mayor Moccia (according to 3 council members) “I’m going to do your dirty work” (whatever that meant)
According to sources, Michael Geake allegedly struck a deal with the Mayor to have Mary Geake (Michael Geake’s wife) re-appointed to the Fair Rent Commission in exchange for his vote. Michael
Geake passed twice on his turn to vote before casting the final vote in what appears to be an obvious attempt at determining how his vote could achieve a desired effect.
It looks like we have 7 Democratic council members who are willing to stick together for the right reasons, Phyllis Bolden, Amanda Brown, Carvin Hilliard, Bill Krummel, Laurel Lindstrom, Steven Serasis
and Doug Sutton. (Congratulations! to our 7 members)
We can count on Fred Bondi to stick with the Republicans almost 100% of the time for his own reasons and on Michael Geake to go every which way according to his own best interests.
The result? We have an ineffective Democratic majority in the council because 2 renegade members have become Republican surrogates, therefore delivering an operational majority to the Republicans.
COMMENT: Democratic members of the council voted in favor of sending the Crescent street option back to committee in order to gather more information and to better inform the rest of the council and
the public at-large, and to avoid another potential controversy. This was the right thing to do. But, Mike Geake killed the effort when he sided with the Republicans on this vote.
The final vote was to approve the Crescent Street proposal. The point is, that if Mike Geake had voted with the rest of the Democrats, the Democratic members could've taken the lead in the final vote. But
Mike Geake voted with the Republicans creating a tie and as a result he allowed Dick Moccia to break the tie.
Mike Geake provided Moccia with the opportunity that allowed Moccia to take the lead in the controversy, not the Democrats. This was a sellout by Mike Geake.
Michael Geake is playing his own game in an apparent attempt at increasing his influence at the expense of the people who nominated him in good faith to run for the council in 2007. If he’s looking to run
for higher office under the Democratic banner, the game he’s playing is definitely not the right approach. If he’s looking to run for higher office under another banner, like the Republicans, he has a better
chance of hitting the Powerball drawing three weeks in a row. Working Families? Remains to be seen.
Mr. Geake arrived as a new resident of Norwalk in 2000-2001 He should give himself a little more time to allow Norwalk voters to know him better, and him to know more about Norwalk. It’s like saying
to the public, “Hey, I've been in Norwalk for 2 weeks and I want to be your Mayor because long time residents are too stupid to run the city” Michael Geake is destroying his own political career.
Kelly Straniti (Republican minority leader) has a babbling problem. In a long dissertation that didn't make much sense she expressed her concerns about where to put Norwalk garbage when the need arises
next time. Not long ago, in fact, in the very recent past the question came up before the council about a Transfer Station in Silvermine (neck of the woods for Doug Hempstead and Kelly Straniti in their own
backyards) in a swift council vote the measure was quickly defeated in less time than it takes a school child to swallow a piece of candy)
But, when it came to the Meadow Street Transfer Station, Ms. Straniti expressed her disappointment and sorrow with a pathetic face about losing the “Meadow Street facility”, the savings for the city,
concerns about someone else running that transfer station and the city losing control. Not a word about the children, health issues, quality of life, odor, trash, traffic, fumes, etc. Her “compassion” was
overwhelming. “Sickening” is the word.
